Can you smell that????

About a month ago I had the final carpet installed in Desiree's room and down the stairs. It was a rainy day and lets just say I was less than impressed with my installers. Right after all the carpet was in, I noticed a strange smell at the bottom of the stairs. I kept asking everyone that came over, if they could smell something strange. Of course no one could or at least thats what they said. So about a week later it got worse. I got down on all fours and sniffed everything in the basement. I narrowed it down to the bottom stairs. I was convinced it must be bad moldy carpet. I called Buy Direct and pitched a little fit (reminded them of the rainy install day) and they agreed to have it replaced. The next week, a carpenter came out and pulled up the carpet. Oh man it was stinky... but the smell didn't go away. We sniffed and sniffed, and thought it must be under the bottom stair. Bracing myself to find a dead animal we pulled off the stair and found nothing. After more sniffing we determined it must be in the wall.
Sigh..... Ugg not what I wanted to hear.
So what did a self sufficient gal like me do? Yep I called my dad.
My dad showed up and couldn't smell anything.... Nothing... seriously?? So he humored me a bit, and drilled a couple of holes in the wall. Almost instantly the most foul smell came pouring out. It was like tear gas stinging my nostrils. At this point I wanted to cry, I just knew something dead had to be in there.
The culprit was 2 sandwich bags of who knows what.... it looked like poop! All we can figure is one of the construction workers lunch got left in the wall (for 6 months). I am happy to report that everything was cleaned out, sanitized and now is as good as new.
